Heavy rainfall caused a section of road to collapse in Ghaziabad on Thursday, sending a parked car and a scooter into a roadside excavation near Atal Chowk in the Vasundhara area. The cave-in occurred beside an under-construction building after continuous rain weakened the soil supporting the road.
According to officials, persistent showers led to a mudslide that eroded the road's edge, causing the surface to give way. A Tata Punch and a two-wheeler parked nearby slid into the excavation pit. Emergency personnel later deployed a hydraulic crane to recover the vehicles, while police secured the area and diverted traffic to ensure public safety.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities acted quickly to cordon off the affected stretch and prevent further accidents as the rescue operation continued.
The road collapse comes amid widespread monsoon-related disruption across Delhi-NCR, with heavy rain causing waterlogging, traffic congestion and flooding in several areas of Ghaziabad and Noida. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more spells of heavy rainfall and urged residents to remain cautious, particularly around construction zones and waterlogged roads where the risk of cave-ins remains high.
